The Journal of Sustainable Tourism is inviting contributions to a special issue titled “Sustainable Luxury Tourism: Opportunities, Tensions, and Impacts.” The deadline for extended abstracts is November 1, 2026, with full manuscripts due by May 31, 2027.
The special issue will examine the relationship between luxury tourism and sustainability, exploring its opportunities, contradictions and broader social, cultural and environmental implications. As interest in luxury travel grows, the call seeks research that critically assesses how sustainability objectives interact with luxury tourism experiences and practices.
Suggested topics include sustainable luxury experiences, consumer behaviour, cultural authenticity, heritage, community inclusion and social value. Contributions may also address labour practices, working conditions, destination branding and governance, alongside the environmental and social challenges associated with luxury tourism.
The guest editors are Kalliopi Chatzipanagiotou, Achilleas Boukis, George Christodoulides and Raffaele Filieri.
Extended abstracts should be 1,000–1,200 words, excluding references. Researchers working across tourism, hospitality, sustainability and related disciplines are invited to contribute to the discussion on the possibilities and limitations of sustainable luxury tourism.
