The Journal of Tourism & Development (Revista Turismo & Desenvolvimento) has published a special issue titled “Urban Tourism Planning and Cultural Tourism.” All articles are freely available online.

Guest-edited by Rui Miguel Ferreira Carvalho, Maria Alexandra Gonçalves and Larissa Almeida, the collection examines challenges and opportunities in urban and cultural tourism, with particular attention to their contribution to sustainable destination development.

The issue addresses tourism planning, urban governance and smart city strategies, alongside digitalisation and innovation in cultural tourism. Contributions also explore the relationships between tourism policies, sustainability and the management of cultural resources.

Further themes include museums, heritage interpretation, co-creation, creative tourism and community participation. The collection extends its geographical focus to small cities and sparsely populated areas, considering how culture and tourism can support local development and urban regeneration.

In announcing the publication, the journal acknowledged the guest editors’ collaboration and contribution to preparing the special issue.
