Marriott to Operate Nine New Hotels in Egypt

News from the Industry

Marriott International has signed agreements with Misr Italia Properties and People & Places to add more than 1,500 hotel rooms and branded residences to its Egyptian portfolio

Marriott International is expanding its presence in Egypt through agreements with local property developers Misr Italia Properties and People & Places for nine new hotels. The projects, planned for coastal destinations and major cities across the country, will add more than 1,500 hotel rooms and branded residences to Marriott’s portfolio.

According to THN.com, the new properties will operate under some of Marriott International’s luxury and lifestyle brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection and Autograph Collection. Most of the projects will be located along Egypt’s North Coast and Red Sea coast, where beach tourism continues to grow. Several developments in Cairo will combine hotels with branded residences within mixed-use communities.

Egypt identified as a long-term priority market

Shady Hassan, Marriott International’s development executive for North Africa, described Egypt as a long-term priority for the company, citing the country’s steady tourism performance and improving infrastructure.

Continued investment in Egypt’s coastal tourism and property sectors has attracted a growing number of international hotel brands. Mixed-use projects combining hotels and branded residences are designed to appeal both to international visitors and local buyers seeking coastal properties associated with globally recognised hospitality brands.

Where will the new hotels open?

An opening schedule for the nine hotels has not yet been announced. The information released so far indicates that the properties will be developed in several of Egypt’s leading tourism and real estate investment destinations.

Ras Al Hekma

A 170-room The Ritz-Carlton hotel and 268 The Ritz-Carlton Residences will be developed in Ras Al Hekma on Egypt’s North Coast. The destination will also feature a separate Autograph Collection hotel with 180 rooms and 250 branded residences.

Sphinx City

A The Luxury Collection project comprising a 180-room hotel and 180 branded residences will be developed within the Hills of One community in Sphinx City, west of Cairo.

Ain Sokhna

An 80-room Autograph Collection hotel accompanied by 172 branded residences is planned for Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea coast.

East Cairo

A 100-room Autograph Collection hotel will open within the Garden 8 complex in East Cairo.

New Administrative Capital

Additional hospitality projects are planned within the Il Bosco development in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. These projects will build on agreements signed in 2022 for Marriott Executive Apartments and Westin Residences.

Investments expected to create 6,000 jobs

Misr Italia Properties and People & Places said their tourism investments exceed EGP 56.7 billion. The developments are expected to create approximately 6,000 jobs and attract around 373,000 visitors annually once completed.

Karim Khaled El Assal, an executive at one of the development companies, said the partnership with Marriott covers more than 1,800 hotel rooms and branded residences across the developers’ combined portfolio.

Misr Italia Properties and People & Places aim to develop approximately 50 hotel projects by 2037. Achieving this target will largely depend on the continued growth of Egypt’s tourism industry and sustained demand for coastal destinations and branded residential developments over the next decade.
