As the General Coordinator and owner of The Encyclopedia of World Tourism, Prof. Dr. Nazmi Kozak, acting as the General Coordinator and owner of The Encyclopedia of World Tourism (“Data Controller”), provides the following information is provided regarding the processing of your personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 of the Republic of Türkiye (“KVKK”), the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works, and international open-access publishing principles.

The Encyclopedia of World Tourism is an international digital publishing platform established to make scientific and sectoral knowledge in the field of tourism publicly available through open access.

Authors submitting content to this platform shall be deemed to have accepted the following terms and conditions.

1. Personal Data Processed

Within the scope of the Encyclopedia, the following personal data may be processed:

  • Full name
  • Academic title
  • Institutional affiliation
  • ORCID number
  • Address information
  • Contact information (e-mail, telephone, etc.)
  • Curriculum vitae information
  • Author photograph (optional)
  • Submitted academic/written content
  • Publication and bibliographic information

2. Purposes of Processing Personal Data

Your personal data may be processed for the following purposes:

  • Preparation, organization, and publication of The Encyclopedia of World Tourism;
  • Identification and verification of contributing authors;
  • Conducting editorial communication processes;
  • Creation of academic and bibliographic records;
  • Providing published content through open-access systems;
  • Digital archiving, indexing, and database services;
  • Fulfillment of legal and administrative obligations;
  • Responding to requests from public authorities;
  • Conducting scientific publishing and ethical review processes.

3. Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data

Your personal data may be processed on the basis of the following legal grounds:

The Author acknowledges and declares that:

  • The content does not contain unauthorized quotations, plagiarism, or unlawful material;
  • The content does not infringe upon the rights of third parties.

The Author agrees to grant The Encyclopedia of World Tourism a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive right to:

  • Publish the content digitally;
  • Share the content through open-access systems;
  • Archive the content;
  • Subject the content to technical and editorial modifications;
  • Index the content in academic databases;
  • Use the content for promotional purposes.

Intellectual property rights to the content shall remain vested in the Author.

7. Open Access and Licensing Policy

Content published in The Encyclopedia of World Tourism shall be published in accordance with open-access principles.

Such content may:

  • Be shared provided that proper attribution is given;
  • Be used for academic and scientific purposes;
  • Be indexed in digital databases.

Separate authorization may be required for commercial use.

8. Editorial Authority and Publication Policy

The editors of the Encyclopedia reserve the right to make necessary editorial arrangements regarding:

  • Language and style,
  • Citation format,
  • Technical standards,
  • Scientific ethics principles,
  • Publication policies.

The editors further reserve the right to:

  • Request revisions;
  • Decline publication;
  • Remove content from publication;
  • Request updates to published content.

9. Data Retention Period

Your personal data may be retained:

  • For the period prescribed under applicable legislation;
  • For as long as necessary for the purposes of processing;
  • To the extent required for academic archiving purposes.

Once an article has been published and three days have elapsed, the article may not be removed from publication even upon the Author’s request.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

Any disputes arising from this text shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. Turkish courts and enforcement offices shall have exclusive jurisdiction over such disputes.

12. Consent and Acceptance

Any Author submitting content to The Encyclopedia of World Tourism declares that they have read, understood, and accepted all terms and conditions set forth herein regarding the processing of personal data, open-access publishing, copyright, editorial modifications, and publication policies.

Submission of content to the Encyclopedia and/or approval through the electronic system shall constitute acceptance of all provisions contained in this text.
