Published in accordance with open-access publishing principles, The Encyclopedia of World Tourism is an international encyclopedic project developed on the basis of the editorial experience, academic knowledge, and institutional infrastructure acquired through the Encyclopedia of Turkish Tourism, which was prepared between 2016 and 2022, published in 16 printed volumes in 2022, and subsequently transferred into a digital environment.

Since its inception, the Encyclopedia of Turkish Tourism has become one of Türkiye’s most comprehensive scientific reference sources in the field of tourism and, as of 2026, has reached more than 11,000 entries in its online edition. Building upon this scholarly foundation, The Encyclopedia of World Tourism aims to expand this accumulation of knowledge to a global scale by bringing together scientific, historical, cultural, and sectoral information related to world tourism on an open-access digital platform.
