Tourism leaders, policymakers, researchers, and industry experts from across the Asia-Pacific region will convene in Guilin, China, from October 19–21, 2026, for the 20th UN Tourism/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook, one of the region’s most influential tourism policy and research gatherings.
Jointly organized by UN Tourism, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the Guilin Municipal People’s Government, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the forum marks its twentieth edition and continues a tradition that began in 2007. Over the years, the event has evolved into a leading platform for analyzing tourism trends, sharing knowledge, and shaping strategies for sustainable tourism development across Asia and the Pacific.
The 2026 edition will be held under the theme “AI and Digital Transformation in Tourism,” reflecting the growing importance of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital innovation in the future of travel and destination management. Organizers say discussions will focus on how emerging technologies can enhance visitor experiences, improve operational efficiency, strengthen destination competitiveness, and support evidence-based policymaking.
Participants are expected to examine the opportunities and challenges associated with AI adoption, smart tourism ecosystems, digital governance, and the evolving expectations of global travelers. The forum will also provide a venue for exchanging best practices and fostering collaboration among governments, academia, and the private sector.
The previous edition attracted more than 230 participants from 30 countries, highlighting the forum’s growing international significance as a hub for tourism intelligence and strategic dialogue. Organizers expect the anniversary edition to further strengthen regional cooperation and reinforce the role of innovation in building a resilient and sustainable tourism sector.
Registration details and programme updates are available through the official UN Tourism and PATA event platforms.
