Academic News

The 14th International Scientific Conference (CITR14 2026) brought together researchers, educators, experts, and industry representatives in Hanoi, Vietnam, on 30 October 2026. Under the theme “Rethinking Tourism & Hospitality: From Theory to Practice,” participants examined how academic research can address practical challenges facing tourism and hospitality.

Held as part of the Hanoi Autumn Humanities Forum 2026, the conference was organised by the Faculty of Tourism Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with Thuongmai University and Rikkyo University, Japan.

The keynote programme addressed climate change, environmental management, responsible tourism, and human experience. Professor Katsuhito Nohara of Rikkyo University explored tourism through environmental economics, while Professor Xu Honggang of Sun Yat-sen University discussed waste management in rural tourism villages. Professor Hiram Ting examined sustainability and resilience through responsible tourism, and Associate Professor Pham Hong Long considered human experience as a resource for resilience in tourism development.

Four parallel academic sessions covered digital transformation, smart tourism, destination governance, tourist behaviour, heritage conservation, regenerative tourism, and value co-creation. The programme also provided space for doctoral candidates and postgraduate students to present their research.

Research discussed at the conference connected these themes with destination-level challenges. Studies examined community participation in regenerative tourism in Ninh Binh, information access in community-based tourism in Lang Son, and the relationship between visitor experiences and cultural understanding at Hanoi’s railway café street. These contributions highlighted the importance of community involvement and social and cultural perspectives in tourism planning.
