The journal Gastronomy and Tourism is inviting submissions for a special issue entitled “Challenges for Gastronomic Tourism in a Changing World.” Expressions of interest and abstracts are due by 30 November 2026, with full manuscripts required by 30 April 2027.
The issue is linked to the II International Scientific Workshop on Gastronomic Tourism, held online on 21–22 October 2026 and organised by the University of Jaén’s Chair of Inland Tourism in partnership with Anáhuac University. Submissions are open to the wider international research community, including authors who did not participate in the workshop. All manuscripts will undergo independent double-blind peer review.
The editors welcome conceptual studies, empirical research and case studies exploring how environmental, technological and socioeconomic changes affect gastronomic tourism. Suggested topics include climate resilience, culinary heritage and authenticity, destination marketing, digital innovation, community participation, local food supply networks, rural development, food festivals and visitor behaviour. Research addressing health, social equity, Indigenous food traditions and tourism education is also encouraged, particularly from European and Latin American contexts.
The guest editors are Dr Juan Ignacio Pulido Fernández of the University of Jaén, Spain; Dr Cristina Barzallo Neira of the University of Cuenca, Ecuador; and Dr María Isabel Ramos Abascal of Anáhuac University, Mexico.
According to the call, contributions may be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese. Manuscripts should be uploaded through the journal’s submission system, with the special issue identified in both the cover letter and submission record. Enquiries can be sent to jipulido@ujaen.es.
Publication is planned for late 2027 or early 2028. Full details and submission guidelines are available from the publisher.
