The Institute for Tourism and the University of Zadar have announced the International Transdisciplinary Conference "(Co)Existence with Tourism: Beyond Sustainability?", which will be held from 21–24 April 2027 at the Falkensteiner Resort Punta Skala – Falkensteiner Hotel Iadera in Zadar, Croatia.

The conference will bring together researchers, academics, tourism professionals, policymakers, and representatives of public authorities to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the contemporary challenges and future directions of tourism development. Recognising that tourism increasingly shapes destinations worldwide, the conference aims to critically examine the limitations of the sustainability paradigm while exploring innovative theoretical and practical approaches to the coexistence of tourism, local communities, and the environment.

The scientific programme will focus on topics such as tourism governance, destination resilience, justice and equity, regenerative development, and the future of tourism destinations. The organisers welcome conceptual, empirical, methodological, and public policy-oriented research, as well as contributions from related disciplines including geography, economics, sociology, political science, environmental studies, spatial planning, psychology, and cultural studies.

The conference will feature keynote presentations by Prof. Melanie Kay Smith (Budapest Business University, Hungary), Prof. Stephen Pratt (University of Central Florida, USA), Prof. Stefan Gössling (Linnaeus University, Sweden), and Prof. Josip Mikulić (University of Zagreb, Croatia).
