Kastamonu University’s Faculty of Tourism held an awareness event on 16 October 2026 to mark World Food Day, bringing together gastronomy students to discuss food safety, waste prevention and sustainable consumption.
Held in the faculty’s conference hall, the programme featured Dr Burcu Emeksizoğlu, Head of the Food and Feed Branch at the Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, who addressed students from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts.
Under the theme “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” the presentation examined the causes of food loss and waste, practical measures to reduce them, and the development of sustainable food systems.
Students were encouraged to use kitchen resources efficiently and minimise waste throughout their professional careers. The discussion also explored how everyday consumption choices affect the conservation of natural resources, emphasising the responsibility that food professionals and consumers share towards future generations.
The event highlighted the connection between culinary education and sustainable practices, encouraging students to incorporate responsible food use into their future work.
