The Parks and Leisure Australia National Conference 2026 will take place from 29 November to 2 December 2026 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing together professionals working in parks, recreation and leisure.
Marking the organisation’s centenary, the conference will explore the theme “From Legacy to Action: Delivering Tomorrow’s Places Today.” Discussions will address sustainability, community wellbeing, asset management and inclusive programming, connecting research and policy with practical approaches to planning and managing public spaces.
Announced keynote speakers include Abraham Kuol, a youth leader recognised as Victoria’s 2026 Young Australian of the Year; Martin Sampson, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association; Professor Anna Peeters, Chief Executive Officer of VicHealth; and Dr Sheila Nguyen, co-founder of the Sports Environment Alliance. Their expertise spans youth participation, community development, public health and environmental sustainability.
The programme also offers technical tours on 2 December, enabling delegates to examine projects across Melbourne and surrounding areas. Options include walking and cycling tours exploring public spaces and recreation infrastructure, visits to botanic gardens, and tours of award-winning parks and playgrounds.
Registration is available through the conference website. Standard full registration costs AUD 1,793 for PLA members and AUD 2,200 for non-members, while day registration costs AUD 1,100. Full registration includes conference sessions, exhibition access, catered breaks and scheduled social events, including the Conference and Awards Dinner on 1 December.
