Academic News

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is inviting applications worldwide for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), supporting full-time doctoral study beginning in September 2027. Applications close on 1 December 2026, with separate deadlines for the scheme’s two application stages.

Successful PolyU fellows receive an annual stipend of HK$344,400, a tuition fee waiver and an annual conference grant of HK$14,400 throughout the normal study period. Additional cash awards comprise HK$40,000 in the first year and HK$20,000 annually thereafter. A university accommodation place is guaranteed for two years.

The opportunity includes the PhD in Hotel and Tourism Management. Applicants to this programme normally require a research master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree, with at least one qualification in hospitality, tourism or a closely related field. They should also have two years of work experience, including at least one year of industry or relevant experience. Exceptional admission routes are available. The programme requires a 1,200–1,800-word research proposal, excluding references.

Applicants must first register through the Research Grants Council’s HKPFS system by 12:00 noon on 1 December 2026, obtaining a reference number. They must then submit their full PolyU application by 23:59 that day. Both deadlines use Hong Kong time (UTC+8).

Candidates nominated by PolyU automatically receive a PhD offer with its Presidential PhD Fellowship package. HKPFS results are expected in April–May 2027.
