-
20 Sep, 2026
The SMT 2027 Smart Tourism Conference will take place on 29–30 June 2027 at Pukyong National University in Busan, South Korea. Organised by the Association for Smart Tourism (AST), the conference will bring together tourism scholars, industry leaders, policymakers and early-career researchers from around the world.
The conference theme, “AI-Enabled, Human-Led Destinations,” addresses the growing influence of artificial intelligence on tourism experiences, destination operations and decision-making. It particularly emphasises the importance of keeping human values, agency, creativity, hospitality, well-being and community interests at the centre of the design, deployment and governance of artificial intelligence.
SMT 2027 aims to provide an international platform for discussing how destinations can employ artificial intelligence and other smart technologies while remaining inclusive, hospitable and responsive to the needs of residents and visitors. The conference is expected to contribute to academic and professional debates surrounding human-centred smart tourism, digital transformation and responsible AI governance.
The programme will accommodate full and short research papers, oral presentations, undergraduate research pitching and regional sessions. Paper submissions will open on 1 December 2026, with the submission deadline set for 28 February 2027. The review milestone is scheduled for 31 March 2027, and acceptance decisions will be announced by 30 April 2027.
The early-bird registration deadline is 30 May 2027, while final registration must be completed by 25 June 2027.
Further information and subsequent updates are available on the official SMT 2027 conference website.
