Tourism Planning & Development is inviting submissions for a special issue titled “Intelligent Transformation of Tourism Development in Asia-Pacific.” The manuscript submission deadline is 30 May 2027.
The issue seeks interdisciplinary research examining how artificial intelligence is changing tourism planning, governance and development across destinations, regions and policy settings. Contributions should address the social, environmental, cultural and economic implications of these changes.
Suggested topics include generative AI, autonomous destination management, algorithmic governance, AI-assisted travel planning, tourist mobility, employment, sustainability and regional business innovation. The call also highlights questions surrounding digital inequality, algorithmic bias and unequal access to technological infrastructure across the region’s diverse destinations.
The guest editors are Boyu Lin of Macao University of Tourism, Jinwei Wang of Beijing International Studies University, Hongwen Chen of Nanchang University and Xin-Jean Lim of Universiti Putra Malaysia.
The editors welcome submissions combining strong theoretical foundations with rigorous research methods. Prospective authors should consult the journal’s author guidelines and submit manuscripts through its online submission system.
