TTRA Europe 2027 to Explore Human-Centred Tourism Futures

Academic News and Events

The 2027 Travel and Tourism Research Association Europe Annual Chapter Conference will be held in Bournemouth, United Kingdom, from 30 March to 3 April 2027. Organised by the TTRA Europe Chapter, the conference will be hosted by the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research at Bournemouth University.

Under the theme “Tourism 2040: Human-Centered Futures in Smart and Regenerative Ecosystems,” the conference will examine how tourism systems can be redesigned to generate intelligent, inclusive, ethical and regenerative value. The discussions will consider the structural transformation of tourism arising from artificial intelligence, climate imperatives, geopolitical change, demographic trends, digitalisation and evolving social values.

The conference will emphasise human-centred approaches that position residents, visitors, employees, entrepreneurs and policymakers as active participants in smart tourism ecosystems. Rather than treating technology as an end in itself, the programme will explore how artificial intelligence, big data, immersive technologies and digital platforms can support human capabilities, collaboration, wellbeing and sustainable competitiveness.

Principal topics will include regenerative tourism, artificial intelligence and smart tourism, inclusive governance and value creation, tourism marketing and consumer intelligence, destination resilience, workforce transformation, climate adaptation, accessible tourism, digital transformation, cybersecurity, cultural heritage, tourism mobility and visitor wellbeing.

The programme will feature academic research presentations, an industry best-practice track and a Doctoral Colloquium designed to support doctoral and master’s students through mentorship, academic exchange and feedback from experienced researchers. Submission categories include extended abstracts, applied industry papers, student papers and posters.

The extended paper-submission deadline is 15 January 2027. Acceptance decisions will be announced on 1 February, and early-bird registration will close on 15 February 2027. Professor Dimitrios Buhalis will serve as the conference’s overall chair.
