UN Tourism Academy is offering a scholarship covering 80% of academic credit fees for the International Doctorate in Tourism at Anáhuac Cancún University in Mexico. Applications are open to public officials working in national, regional and local tourism administrations in UN Tourism member countries until 4 December 2026.

Beginning in January 2027, the Spanish-language programme combines live online classes with intensive face-to-face sessions at the university’s Cancún campus. Its research areas explore tourism and gastronomy in relation to society, sustainability, culture, economic impacts, competitiveness and innovation.

The scholarship covers 80% of academic credit fees only. Registration, travel, accommodation, meals, degree-processing fees and other expenses remain the responsibility of the successful candidate.

Applicants must hold a master’s degree and submit academic documentation, an up-to-date CV, two reference letters, a statement of purpose and evidence of English proficiency. A five- to ten-page research proposal, aligned with the programme’s research areas, is also required. The admissions process includes an interview.

International applicants must meet the applicable requirements for document authentication, Spanish translations where necessary and a student visa.

Application documents must be sent together in a single email to rocio.canales@anahuac.mx. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified on 8 January 2027.

Full eligibility criteria, scholarship conditions and application requirements are available in the official UN Tourism announcement.
