Writing Guidelines for “Biographies”
Biographical entries highlight individuals who have made significant contributions to the development, understanding, management, or promotion of tourism and hospitality. These individuals may include scholars, entrepreneurs, policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, or other influential figures whose work has shaped tourism theory, practice, or institutions. Entries prepared for The Encyclopedia of World Tourism should present the relevant individual in an objective, academic, and source-based manner. The entry should examine the person’s background, education, career, major achievements, and significance for tourism. Where applicable, attention should also be given to their publications, leadership roles, innovations, awards, and lasting influence on tourism scholarship, industry, or policy. All information should be supported by reliable and up-to-date sources.
Entry Format
1) Entry Title
[Full Name]
(If necessary, the person’s profession or title may be added in parentheses.)
2) Introductory Statement (Descriptive Sentence)
The introductory statement should not exceed 250 characters.
In one or two sentences, briefly summarize who the person is, their profession or field of expertise, their relationship to tourism, and their principal contributions.
3) Main Text
The main text must contain at least 400 words.
The sections “See Also” and “References” are not included in the word count.
The entry should begin with the introductory statement.
The following headings are recommended. They may be used directly or incorporated into the narrative of the text.
