Writing Guidelines for “Museums, Exhibitions, and Visitor Attractions”
Museums are important cultural institutions that preserve, interpret, and present heritage, history, art, science, and collective memory, while serving as significant attractions within the tourism system. They contribute to visitor experiences, cultural education, destination image, and sustainable heritage management. Entries prepared for The Encyclopedia of World Tourism should present the relevant museum in an objective, academic, and source-based manner. The entry should examine its history, collections, mission, management structure, and significance for tourism. Where applicable, attention should also be given to visitor engagement, educational activities, conservation practices, economic and socio-cultural impacts, and current developments. All information should be supported by reliable and up-to-date sources.
Entry Format
1) Entry Title
[Name of the Museum / Exhibition / Visitor Attraction]
(If necessary, the province, district, or affiliated institution may be added in parentheses.)
2) Introductory Statement (Descriptive Sentence)
The introductory statement should not exceed 250 characters.
In one or two sentences, briefly summarize what the museum, exhibition, or visitor attraction is, its subject or area of activity, where it is located, and its opening year (if known).
3) Main Text
The main text must contain at least 400 words.
The sections “See Also” and “References” are not included in the word count.
The entry should begin with the introductory statement.
The following headings are recommended. They may be used directly or incorporated into the narrative of the text.
3.1 Definition and Area of Activity

- What theme, subject, or field does it focus on?

- Awards, registrations, or certifications received (if applicable): [Brief information]
3.6 Exhibited Objects / Collections (or Presentation Content)
- Types of collections or exhibited materials: [Artifact groups, objects, documents, digital content, etc.]
